Skin care: 10 home remedies that work because skin care, especially for women, can be a crazy uphill battle. Thank you hormones. Thank you very much. Its very thoughtful of you to spread all over my face without my consent. Anyway, Greetings!! I hope you’re okay by the way and welcome back. Today its all about the pursuit for the glow. Naturally. I hope you have a happy read.
Personally, my skin has a way of just taking me to an adventurous journey without even giving me the memo. When all I’ve ever been is cooperative and extremely generous. Product and health-wise.
I can wake up in the morning and there is a fellow on my forehead. At midday, two others juxtapose themselves on my cheekbones. As if that’s not an ambush enough, I see that around my chin there is also a gang waiting there armed and ready for battle. Like..
All of a sudden, you have extra work that will consume you to a borderline obsessive point of sometimes, no return.
Where you wake up and all you think of is your skin. When you sleep, you even have some dreams as a dermatologist because of the scents you inhale when you’re working hard on the ambushes. Trying to find a face routine that works but like every other adventure, you grow through it. Through the smooth, the errors and the pimples.
You learn something that you can pass on to the next generation Hehe. I know I am being dramatic but this is just the way I see it. So I came to realize, through these ruthless ambushes by the pimples, that there are certain things my skin loves and then others it just hates..with a vicious passion.
- My skin is a sensitive negative environment detector. When I am somewhere I don’t enjoy the environment, pop! pop! and pop pop pop! Obviously because the environment is altering my hormones which don’t waste time. So my skin hates unnecessary stress.
- When I have breached the hydration contract somewhere in-between busy-ness, my skin will raise complaints through an ambush. To remind me, I need to consistently make sure I am drinking a minimum of 2 litres of water a day.
- My skin is also very intimidated by Aunty Flow. When she arrives, she has a way of interrupting order and she doesn’t care whether I am ready for it or not. All I know is suddenly, there will be a big protruding and extremely painful pimple, that usually occupies an area somewhere around the mouth area expecting me to deal with it.
- My skin enjoys a healthy diet. Thankfully, I am a healthy living perfectionist with some cons (which is disadvantageous at times) and I love holistic skin remedies as well as Ayurvedic DIYs. This stuff makes my skin happy.
- My skin doesn’t enjoy my phone on the face, being touched just by anyone, oily pillowcases probably from my hair-story for another day, too much sun and products that over-dry it.
- My skin loves salicylic acid and an extra push with vitamins. Especially the B complex, Omega 3, Vitamin E and C, Probiotics and adaptogens which is a topic for next time.
When you understand your skin and keep things simple, you start to get a hang of things and begin to smoothen up gradually. It’s a process. At least from my experience. So below will be 10 home remedies that you can add to your skin care routine and see if it works for your acne and pimples.
Also, if you’re dealing with acne or pimples, take heart. It happens. While trying to find what works, be kind to yourself and patient. For you to find something that you can implement on a daily without having to squander your coins. Buying products that are designed to suppress the problem rather than solve it. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Always have that in mind. Don’t get pressured. Do your research and take your sweet time while at it. The best results and long-lasting progress requires patience.
Let’s dive right in to the best home remedies that your skin will fall in love with.
- Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree oil is known for its antibacterial and antimicrobial compounds that act effectively against the causes of acne and pimples. Topically of course. The oil, has the ability to penetrate deeply into your skin and unclog the sebaceous glands. You can read more about The Gland to understand how it works and what really causes acne. Tea tree oil also has the ability to dissolve dust and grease easily from your face and as a result protect your skin from oxidative stress. The most effective DIY that I’ve tried with tremendous results is as follows:
5 drops of tea tree oil added to one part witch hazel. Take a cotton ball, dip it to the concoction and swab it on your face. I like to sleep with it on. Quite honestly too, I can moisturize my face with tea tree oil without mixing it with anything else, spend the day with it on and achieve remarkable results. However, I don’t recommend this to anyone because the Oil is very strong and is known to cause skin irritations on some people. So try what method works best for you and roll with it. Otherwise this DIY will get rid of excessive oil that’s causing the breakouts and then it will penetrate deeper into your skin to remove dirt and open your pores further reducing the swelling caused by acne.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar.
OMG!! If nothing works out of everything I write on this list, I guarantee you this one right here is the business. I have so much to say about Bragg’s apple cider vinegar that if I start now, I will end up with a book. I love the product so much. After finding a way of purchasing it, now it has become a staple. Always in the kitchen cabinet looking pretty. I even suddenly feel an excitement rush just looking at the image. First of all, there is nothing I admire more than a business owner with Integrity and a purpose to genuinely serve others.
Bragg’s acv is considered the Queen of other brands. This is because its 100% natural. Unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized and contains the mother of vinegar at the bottom. Which is the crème de la crème of the whole thing. That’s where the magic is found. Again for me, my method is considered unorthodox but it works-for me. I usually just shake the bottle, get a cotton ball, soak it with ACV and swab it all over my face. I love to do this in front of the mirror just to watch the immediate reaction of the pimples. Muhaha! Most times I wake up with some gone and others drying up. If you can take the ACV sting you can take anything life throws at you. Just thinking hihi.
Otherwise, the proper method for acne and pimple treatment especially as a toner to balance your pH is:
1 Tablespoon of acv mixed with 1 Tablespoon of water. Take the cotton ball, swab your face, let it stay for 15 mins, wash it off or if you’re like me, live it on and moisturize. Find what works for you best. Also, rest assured that this is the BEST for beating acne and even dark spots.
Another recipe, is mixing a tablespoon of ACV with AZTEC Clay. Stir it into a thick paste and generously smother it around your face then leave it on for 15 minutes. If you’re like me, put on the mask and do other things without the pressure to wash it off. Works wonders.
3. Lemon Juice
Someone said that when life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade and try to find someone whose life has given them vodka and have a party-both of you but I beg to differ (while slightly agreeing) and I say: when life gives you lemons darling, you squeeze the juice to your DIY face masks like a bawse and glow up!
I love lemons so much and actually get a panic attack when I run out of them in my kitchen. They have amazing health benefits and are perfect for skin care. Another thing I greatly value about lemons, is that, it doesn’t matter what skin type you have, it will serve you wonderfully.
Lemon juice, packed with vitamin C, will assist with brightening the dark spots caused by acne and pimples. It can also exfoliate the skin and unclog your pores by clearing up excess sebum. On top of that, if you wish to have an improved complexion, Lemon juice is the business-due to its richness in Vitamin C as mentioned earlier. Moreover, given that it’s a natural astringent, the swellings that may occasionally appear on your face due to skin inflammation caused by acne and pimples, will be contracted and give you a much smoother look. Finally, in as much as its rich in citric acid, it actually balances the pH levels of your skin and even your blood. Which is a fantastic thing given that bacteria and microbial properties cannot thrive in an alkaline environment!
The best acne treatment is 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, half a teaspoon baking soda and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix all the ingredients until you have a consistent mixture. Wash your face thoroughly with some mild soap and then apply this mixture on your face and around the neck area. Leave it for about 15 minutes which is usually the given time for most masks though like I mentioned earlier, I can go for hours. After 15 mins, remove the mask with a soft wash cloth and rinse the leftovers. Pat dry (I air dry) and follow-up with a toner-especially the Bragg’s apple cider vinegar recommendation above and you will be shocked by the amazing results. Keep the rest of the mask in the fridge and repeat the process thrice a week or daily.
Alright, I don’t know if you have heard, but apparently, the wilderness holds answers to more questions than we have yet learned to ask and if that is so, then… then our kitchen cabinets and fridge holds answers to more skin questions than we have yet learned to ask. Especially when baking soda can be such a life saver when it comes to acne, pimples and other health issues including cancer-story for another day.
Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, has a superpower to balance your pH levels back to normal. Like I have mentioned earlier, no form of disease whether bacterial or microbial can exist in an alkaline environment. That’s why, this stuff like a vacuum cleaner on your floor, will suck out all your bumps and bruises haha. Very simple substance with amazing abilities.
There are so many DIYs when it comes to baking soda but the very best, if you ask me, is as follows:
1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or Bragg’s apple cider vinegar. Mix it up and smother it pon’ ya pretty face. Rinse off after 15 minutes and repeat thrice a day or every evening depending on the intensity of your situation then moisturize with coconut and tea tree oil. Thanking me can be done later!
Oh wait, it still does the magic when you mix a tablespoon with water enough to create a consistency. Incredible exfoliator too!
This spice right here, is a proper replica of God in the details. It is also another thing I don’t want to be too invested in because I will end up writing a book on its benefits. So let me stay on course. Right of the bat, but or butt however you want to look at it, let’s get down with it.
The spice silently boasts of remarkable antioxidant benefits. Science backed benefits in fact. You know when a scientist confirms something then you know that you are knowing yes? I mean when it comes to turmeric we are talking cognitive, cardiovascular, blood sugar, cholesterol, digestive AND most importantly, skin health. It is also the best at inflammation response and immune system support. What else could anyone ask for? Personally, there is not a meal that I cook and fail to dash some turmeric on. It is the pillar of my dishes especially when I was blessed with a savoury tooth. Not forgetting, spicy girls love spicy foods so why not turmeric! Why not?!
Like every other DIY there is a variety. I guess you just need to find what works for your skin type. My ever working amazing DIY that was inspired by the drop dead gorgeous Priyanka Chopra includes:
1 teaspoon of chickpeas flour, 1 teaspoon of Queen Turmeric, 1 teaspoon of King Bragg ACV, 1 teaspoon of honey and to be honest, I add a tablespoon of yoghurt. Plain and non flavored just to be clear before someone gets the flavored one! Create a mask. On a clean face, scrub as you apply and leave it on for half an hour and even more. If in a hurry, 15 minutes will still do the magic. Just so you know, plain turmeric with water does just fine too based on my experience. So no pressure to be fancy nancy. Work with what you have sweetheart. Marathon. No sprints! Lastly, I just want to make a public prayer. Heavenly Father, I bless your holiness and awesome wonder-working power in turmeric. You are amazing. I love you, thank you and God’s children say? In Jesus name, Amen!
“You haffi marry the nana-nana, before mi ride the banana..” LOL. Music for you today! Anyway, let me just start by saying I love the fruit. Take everything away from me and I might give you a free pass but mind your manners with my bananas! They help me so much when Aunty Flow is in the building and for that, I can’t trade my bananas for anything. Besides, they have amazing health benefits too thanks to its potassium abundance. Otherwise, lets stick to beauty. From today, don’t ever throw your banana peels away because the story doesn’t stop at just eating the banana.
The peel is also very rich with potassium and antioxidants. In fact when raw, it’s usually packed with Magnesium which is also very good for your skin. So, when you rub the inside of your banana peel preferably over ripe, on your irritated skin, until it turns brown for that matter, you will be on to some serious glow up. Assuming that after 15 minutes you will rinse it off and not leave it on and go about your business smelling like banana peels. No bueno. Rub the peel, after 15 mins go wash your face. Do this until you see results. Stop at nothing. Another way to go about it is, instead of eating the banana and using the peel, use the banana this time. A ripe and sexy banana. Mash it up until you get a smooth consistency then add a tablespoon of honey plus yoghurt.
Lick your face right after.. I kid. Leave it on for 30 minutes I suggest, for best results, then wash it off.
What? You thought potatoes are only good when mashed or fried with a side of steak and some béarnaise sauce? Look at you drooling already! Uh-Uh honey. Yes potatoes are yummy! Healthy! Tasty and my favorite booty enhancer but there is more than what meets the eye. So far you have gathered I assume, that potassium is a powerhouse yes? I also assume that you are aware that potatoes are richly packed with potassium yes? Well, on top of that, they also have a good amount of vitamin C, Zinc (perfect for skin) and B6. Everything we need to look like we just went through an expensive procedure at one of those dermatologists or whatever you call them in Beverly Hills.
How can you incorporate this gem to your skin care DIY? Get one whole potato. WASH IT! Duh. Get you a nice sharp knife and peel it. If you have a blender, slice it and throw it in your blender. Obviously blend it then get that porridge looking stuff and mask your face with it. To make it more effective you could add two tablespoons of lemon juice. Leave it on until dry then wash it off. Repeat thrice. If you don’t have a blender, no worries. Just slice a chunk of the potato and massage your face with it then leave it on until dry then rinse off and voilà, your face in no time will be smooth and spotless like a baby’s buttocks! Hopefully, you’ll be doing all the aforementioned masks on a clean face and remember to store the rest in your fridge.
By the way I am not so happy, as I write this and think of how hard it is to find a proper organic Papaya like the ones that grow outside my grandmother’s kitchen garden. All I see is some tiny stuff the size of a cow’s balls and usually without seeds meaning it’s not organic. Meh!
Otherwise, Papaya which I call pawpaw-don’t ask me why, is another bad ass when it comes to health and skin care. It’s USP (unique selling point) is the richness of a special enzyme referred to as papain. Hence its ability to be superbly beneficial to your digestive system and assist with detoxing further resulting to reduced inflammation and the purification of your blood. It’s seeds are also something not to be underestimated especially when I remember grandma forcing me to chew the pepper-ish seeds claiming that they will rid me of them worms or any other harmful bacteria and keep my liver healthy. One day, a few days after consuming two tablespoons and dreading every second of it, something mysterious happened for the first time. A pink something something came from my belly resembling a snake. I did scream yes. Point in case, papaya is true to its benefits.
As for the skin, given that papain is queen, when used as a mask, it has the ability to exfoliate your skin and encourage skin regeneration further leaving you with a Beverly Hills skin procedure glow. How do you go about it? This time you make your own night serum. I learned this from YouTube. You take 1 cup of fresh papaya blended (meaning if you don’t have a blender you will have to mash it.), then 1 tablespoon of pure rose-water, 1 teaspoon of rosehip oil, 1 tablespoon of pure vegetable glycerin, 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil, then take 3 Vitamin A supplement capsules of 10,000 ui and pop it with a sterilized needle and add it to the mix. After you have mixed everything, store it in a jar, place it in the fridge and use some on a clean face before bed time.
This DIY is to be done daily, only during the night and washed off the next morning.
Eggs don’t have to be associated with Menstrual cramps or a tasty and fluffy omelette only Hehe! This guys can also do wonders not only to your face but also the hair. I love eggs! They make the world. Speaking of which, which one comes first? The chicken or the egg? LOL. Everyone knows the benefit of consuming at least 2-3 eggs every now and then or 5 if you’re rebellious like me. Or if you’re into fitness-like me. It’s one of my favorite booty enhancers too as well as hair conditioner.
I’ll not go so much into the details because this one is such a cliché. How can you use it to counterattack them pimples and acne? Take one egg, get the egg white, then add two table spoons of lemon juice or one tablespoon of Bragg’s ACV and then mix it up. Apply it on your clean face, as you do with every other mask, let it dry and rinse it off. If you do this at least thrice a week, in no time you will see the magic that lieth within the eggs on thine face. Yes, you are very welcome!
This is not just a healthy and hearty brilliant breakfast idea. No boo! This is also a one way ticket to glow-ville because once you get there, you will not want to return. I believe and or assume that this is a staple in everyone’s kitchen? That is packed with amazing health benefits common to us, especially for the heart and colon (due to its wealth in fiber). Due to this, I would like to publicly announce that I resign from going way too deep in to the cliché details! LOL.
What we are interested in here is the wonderful fact that Oats are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Actually, sometimes I like to tell myself that, maybe it has a lot of zinc in it hence its ability to make the skin so soft and flawless. Like I assume, it has a lot of zinc. We don’t know.. or I don’t, for now but I think it should be alright to make assumptions. It could be considered a sign that the brain is doing ok even though ok is not my cup of tea Hehe!
Alright so what, how, when? Take 2 table spoons of oats and then grind them. After, add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix until you have something consistent and apply on your clean beautiful face then wash it off after 15-30 minutes. Repeat thrice a week until you achieve your desired results.
FINALLY ON SKIN CARE…
If you follow all this steps, diligently, I assure you that you will be able to overcome acne and pimples that affect mostly women, from time to time.
Another thing you should consider keenly, above all else, is what goes inside of your mouth. Sometimes a good diet, followed by exercise and proper hydration is all you need to achieve good skin.
Avoid stress too. Most of my breakouts if they are not caused by Aunty Flow then there is something stressing me and If there is one thing I have learned to do-the hard way and learned well, is to listen to my body. I know when I breakout and it’s not Aunty Flow something is wrong and I fix it. Listen to your body or your skin for this matter and then take action.
Moreover, never underestimate calmness and positive vibes. This too can sweep off the pop ups. When I am happy, staying in my lane to avoid the negativity that is likely to tag along with some human beings, I glow effortlessly. So, check your environment. The problem and the answer is always around you if not from within.
Find good supplements too. Omega 3, a good probiotic, Magnesium, an adaptogen among others, might very well be the perfect solution. You are one research away from finding what suits you best. Don’t be a lazy bum haha!
Another thing, wash your face twice daily. Actually when I breakout, I mask daily with a variety of masks. DIY sessions are your home spa time where you bond with yourself and mature emotionally. When you can enjoy your own company without feeling depressed or lonely, then you know you are doing well for yourself. Nothing will empower you more than solitude. So enjoy these moments, put on some good music, make a good cup of green tea perhaps and just love on you. The good feeling you add to the DIYs will heal you. However, if it feels like a hectic task, then that might very well cause more breakouts. So be mindful.
Otherwise, as always, from the bottom of my heart, I am grateful that you passed by and endured my wit and quirks.
Be sure to leave a comment below and share some of your skin care DIYs. Your skin struggles? Or further tips on how to glow like a Kardashian LOL! Without doing what the Kardashians do I hope because at the end of the day, even if we want to have sexy skin or I want to…. I think health is extremely important and no amount of vanity can lure me or should lure us into thinking otherwise.
