Why were we told about the woman with the issue of blood? What’s her story got to do with us? Good morning, please.
The last time I acknowledged someone that way, there was a huge burst of laughter across the room. I didn’t catch what was funny and I hope you don’t laugh or smile either.
From time to time I say “Hallo or good morning, Please” when I feel like I’m in a good mood! Just to see the reaction hihi. Otherwise there are days when someone says “goodmorning” to me and I yell “WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT THIS MORNING!!!”
Also you know, I’m very selfish with my first 5 hours in the morning. I don’t like to be spoken to because I’m still booting and it feels like I’m being ambushed, when all of a sudden my brain is being engaged to the most random conversations. Seriously I don’t like that. Talk to me from midday. Can anybody else relate? Or should I self-diagnose with google?
This my friends is also how you know there is an actual human being behind the scenes.
As I write this, It’s exactly 07:30 a.m. My day began at 4:00 a.m. Yesterday, it was lights off for me at 9:00 p.m. I had good rest and I am very grateful for that because I am quite familiar with Insomnia.
Also it’s a very beautiful and fresh morning.
Now 07:31, I just took my third sip of “uji” and my soul is happy. There is pin drop silence around me and the birds are still doing their oblations I suppose. I love the sound that doves make. They are one of my favourite birds because they’re seemingly so kind and friendly, also good with minding their own business.
Something I found outstanding this morning, the news about Brandt Jean’s act of Grace towards his brother’s killer. America will never cease to amaze me you know. Most people are stuck on the case and family and are missing out on one thing here. The forgiveness, was not an ordinary move but a divine intervention as a message to the public.
For so long a time, we have been divided and living with so much hate among each other. Due to this, many lives have been lost and the nation is soon going to be too drenched with innocent blood to stand.
The Holy Spirit through Brandt Jean publicly declared forgiveness so that we all can see that, reflect and also choose to forgive those who we need to forgive.
This way as a nation we can start healing and find grace. America, let the racial segregation go. There really has never been a difference between Black and White.
We all bleed red and that blood is the life source of Him you mention in your national anthem. You say towards the end “praise the power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, and this be our motto: “In God is our trust”.
God is right in front of us every single day but we don’t seem to see that. If we did, (in fact this applies all over the world), we would never have so many murder cases as we have now. Let alone the absurd betrayals taking place far and wide.
What brought me here is a woman we often don’t give as much credit as we should. The scripture refers to her as “A woman who had a haemorrhage for 12 years”.
You know, the interesting thing with us is, we see the miracles that Lord Jesus Christ did and we become so attracted to them, that we miss the point. That observation is why I want us to focus on Veronica. That was her name.
Veronica’s situation was so bad her veins were exhausted. She was not able to bare children and was as good as dead because of the seriousness of her condition. The physicians of her time were unable to cure her and no solution worked. She had lost all hope in life and one day like every day, Jesus Christ of Nazareth was passing by.
If you read the scriptures, you will see that Jesus was going to the Synagogue official’s home to heal his daughter who later died (and was raised back to life). He wasn’t coming for Veronica.
However, Veronica heard about Jesus and determined in her heart to weather the crowd behind Him and touch His garment. She thought to herself that if she would just touch His garment she will get well.
So what happened was that, as Jesus Christ of Nazareth passed by, Veronica strived to draw closer to Him. In the middle of that close range, His shadow fell on her and this in turn strengthened her.
Through that strength, she was able to touch the hem of His garment and immediately, the flow of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed from her afflictions.
Jesus Christ said, He felt power (Luke says virtue) proceeding from Him and He asked. “Who touched my garments”? Veronica in fear and trembling, aware of what had took place, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. Then He said to her “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction”.
What does the woman with the issue of blood got to do with us?
If you just take blood separately and analyse it, it is the life source of every creation. Do we agree?
If we agree, then we agree that Veronica had an issue of Life sifted out of her soul for 12 years. She was existing but not living. Nothing was able to stop this and neither was anyone able to intervene in her situation. It got worse and that means she was at a point of death. The problem was irreversible.
We know that first of all she heard about Jesus. So we can agree that the miracle confirms Romans 10:17 that says “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ”. The word, is not just the word of Christ only but it is also Him.
If we agree on that then we will agree, because she heard about Him and determined in her heart to weather the crowd behind Him, she was not only having Faith but she was in obedience to 2 Corinthians 5:7 that says “walk by faith, not by sight”. Her faith caused her to focus on Jesus garment and not the size of the crowd behind Him.
She said if she would just touch the hem of his garment she will get well. From her results, we can also agree truly that “as a man thinks in his heart so is he” Proverbs 23:7. With belief in her heart and the desire to act on her belief, she did what many desire to achieve.
You might be thinking, Oh but she’s quoting a scripture written after the miracle. Yes, that’s what makes the scripture beautiful besides useful. It is flexible enough to confirm or disapprove anything.
Things you need to take note of from the woman with the issue of blood
As much as she had faith after she heard about Jesus, we have to recognise unique factors here.
- Veronica, was not after a miracle. She was after Jesus Christ. If she was after a miracle, she would have asked for a word like the centurion or called for Jesus to come by and He would have.
She wanted to touch His garment and she knew that would solve all her problems. Whenever you see a garment in the word, it is either a garment of righteousness or vice versa.
Since this was Jesus garment, Veronica pursued RIGHTEOUSNESS. Not healing.
- As she was pursuing righteousness and with the close proximity between her and Christ, His shadow fell on her and that strengthened her Faith to touch the garment and with that she achieved RIGHTEOUSNESS which in turn made her whole and life redeemed.
Psalm 91 says if we abide in the shadow of the Almighty, He will deliver us from the fowler’s snare and the deadly pestilence. As veronica was delivered.
In her pursuit for Righteousness, she not only left with healing but the virtues of the Lord. Given that Jesus says He felt Virtue leave Him. These are the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
- When Jesus asked who touched me? Of course He knew who touched Him but He wanted Veronica to confess her sins. In the bible you don’t see the details but thats the meaning of “she told Him the whole truth”. Meaning repentance is a pivotal act in receiving healing and salvation.
That’s when He confirmed to her, her faith has made her whole again and her afflictions have come to an end. She received salvation which is permanent.
In Mathew, Jesus encouraged us to “seek first His Righteousness and the Kingdom and all other things shall be added unto us”.
Veronica heard about Jesus and believed in her heart through Him she would get well. A good symptom of Faith is obedience. I say obedience because in many spiritual aspects thats what her actions exhibited. She had no fear, no shame or doubt and the crowd did not intimidate her.
Also, usually we’re meant to act like we believe in what we confess not confess what we pretend to believe in. Veronica is a very good example of this.
Like Veronica, its perfect if you’re in an imperfect position because Jesus Christ did not come to this world for the perfect.
In fact, it is the imperfect turned perfect that is used to demonstrate Grace and Mercy for others to be inspired and receive it too.
However, there are prerequisites to get the best from the Kingdom of God. What gave Veronica the upper hand is that as much as she needed help, she didn’t pursue help but THE ONE with the help.
I don’t know if we are together. Rather than going for resources, she went to the SOURCE of resources.
That pursuit brought her in close proximity with the Lord spiritually to mean a relationship was established. The closer she got to Him, the more she abided under His shadow. This way, she drew strength from that, her Faith became stronger and she achieved Righteousness which is Salvation. All her afflictions disappeared.
Likewise, the closer we walk towards the Lord, we will abide under His shadow. This will strengthen our Faith and give us the hope to touch His garment of Righteousness.
With this, it will not only solve one problem out of a million but a million problems all at once. We will also lose His virtues; the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit upon ourselves and be able to abide in every good work by Grace.
It is a profitable thing if we are not short sighted but consistently think of the bigger picture. It is not sufficient to the spirit, when we aim for the scoop of an ocean (that later slips off of your hands) when you are invited to have the ocean in its entirety.
Veronica teaches us that the reward is greater if we pursue Righteousness rather than miracles. Righteousness is Christ.
She also shows us that Faith and obedience are profitable not just to our souls but life at large.
We also see that with confession towards the Lord amidst our pursuit i.e constant repentance, He will entrust us with His virtues and confirm us as partakers of Faith.
Very little was said in the Bible about Veronica but when it comes to the word, very little is actually A LOT of Life Giving wisdom.
I hope one or two get encouraged concerning this and act like Veronica. Focus not on the depth of your problem but fix your eyes on the source of Life.
Also don’t pursue what is perishable but that which is imperishable. There is more to God than miracles you know. That’s what I want us to start seeing and perceiving.
To me, Veronica is very similar to David who was nicknamed “a man after my own heart”.
Sometimes, I look at some of these records and I ask myself, what if we broke them and set new ones in our generation? Wouldn’t it be nice if we strived for things such as these rather than squabbling with each other for crumbs while forfeiting true bread? Just wondering loudly!
Anyway think of this.
Let’s say you’re in a position higher than Bill Gates and you have a blank cheque to offer. In that blank cheque anyone can write any sum of money they want and you will give it to them.
However, in comes that one person who knows about this freedom but loses interest in it.
Instead, the person chooses to get to know who you really are and decides to become friends with you. They choose to build rapport even though they need the money.
Between the one that writes the sum of money on the free blank cheque and the one that wants you for who you are rather than the blank cheque you offer, who would you pick?
Ponder on that as you enjoy your day.
